• A professor of religion turns atheist after witnessing a massacre in Iraq, only to confront a darker possibility

• A high-ranking American intelligence officer authorizes a black op that no one understands, but on which the fate of nations depends

• An explosion of violence in the Middle East as warring sects seek the ultimate weapon of mass destruction

• And, at the center of the conflagration, a book that reveals the existence of an ancient cult bent on global extermination …

• … a book introduced to the world by a famous author of gothic horror. A book that is not supposed to exist.

Truth is so hard to tell, it sometimes needs fiction to make it plausible— Francis Bacon

Drawing on decades of experience, non-fiction author and historian Peter Levenda turns to the novel as the best and perhaps only way to tell a story that must be told.

Hidden within the tales of America's most iconic writer of gothic horror, H.P. Lovecraft, runs a vein of actual terror. Gregory Angell, present day descendant of George Angell in Lovecraft's “Call of Cthulhu,” is summoned by a nameless covert agency of the US Government to retrieve a sacred book from the grasp of an Islamist terror network operating out of northern Iraq, in the land of the Yezidi. Long believed to be devil worshippers, the Yezidi are all that's left of an ancient cult that possessed the key to the origins of the human race … and of the conflict between that race and another, much more ancient, civilization from beyond the stars.

Angell's quest takes him from the streets of Brooklyn to the deserts of the Middle East, to Central Asia, northern India and an island in the Pacific Ocean. The reader is taken on side trips to Nazi Germany, the laboratory of a South Florida necrophile, post-Katrina New Orleans, and to the origins of the modern science of archaeology in the late nineteenth century.

Tantra is one of the most misunderstood of the esoteric disciplines. In order to get a clear idea as to the nature of Tantric ritual and belief it is necessary to go where Tantra is still practiced and from where important Tantric teachings originated a thousand years ago: the island of Java in present-day Indonesia.

This book illustrates the history of Tantrism in Java with more than a hundred photographs of temples, statues and iconography dedicated to the system — some rarely seen before, including the recently-excavated “white temple” of Yogyakarta — and accounts of contemporary practices in the shrines, cemeteries and secret schools of Java. In the process, we will learn how this esoteric philosophy has affected the everyday lives of the most populous Muslim country in the world.

We will also learn that an important Tibetan teacher of the eleventh century studied at the feet of a Tantric master in Java and brought back with him to Tibet the sacred — and secret — teachings that are important to Tibetan Buddhist practice today.

When the Dalai Lama consecrated the newly-restored Borobudur Temple in Indonesia in 1983, he was signaling to the world the quiet relationship that has existed for hundreds of years between the two cultures. To the Tibetan leader, Borobudur is an example of Vajrayana Buddhism and was built as the world's largest mandala by architects schooled in sacred geometry. Yet, Borobudur is only one example among hundreds of others: many more specific and, in some cases, sexually explicit as well. In Java, where the Sultans still pay homage to the Goddess of the Southern Sea in a colorful and arcane ritual, and where Muslim men and women meet at secret shrines to marry a stranger before having intercourse in a sacred cemetery in order to obtain supernatural favors, the relationship between sexuality, religion, and power is clear and unequivocal.

It was this Tantra — the real Tantra — that has influenced secret societies, mystics, alchemists, Kabbalists and magicians for hundreds if not thousands of years. This book tells the story of how human sexuality became a metaphor and a template for both spiritual transformation and the manipulation of reality; of how various sexual acts and psycho-biological states became the basis for a comprehensive cosmology that incorporates every aspect of human experience.

Sometimes the secrets are buried where you least expect to find them. Sometimes they are hidden in plain sight. Sometimes … they are both. In the largest Muslim country in the world we will discover a path of Tantra so unique, yet so vibrant and alive, that we will be astonished that no one had heard of it until now.

The Tantric Alchemist
Thomas Vaughan and the Indian Tantric Tradition

• Explores the psycho-sexual technique that is at the root of both Tantra and Alchemy
• Sheds light on nineteenth and twentieth century occult movements lead by P.B. Randolph, Theodore Reuss, Helena Blavatsky, and Aleister Crowley
• Demonstrates that the language of alchemy describes a process fundamental to psychology, sexuality, and chemistry
• Decodes the language of the alchemists who spoke of a process of creation at the root of all phenomena

In the seventeenth century the Welsh alchemist Thomas Vaughan, and his wife and alchemical partner Rebecca, died under mysterious circumstances. What they were doing and how it might have led to their deaths has remained a secret … even though the true nature of their experiments is described in code in Vaughan's published works.

Readers will find that the many disparate threads of an authentic spiritual tradition are woven together here in a startling tapestry that reveals — without pretense or euphemism — the psycho-sexual technique that is at the root of both Tantra and Alchemy: that is to say, of both Asian and European forms of esoteric praxis.

Using the works of Vaughan as his text, Levenda applies the “twilight language” of Tantra to the surreal prose of the alchemist and in the process lays bare the lineaments of the arcane tradition that gave rise to the legend of Christian Rosenkreutz, the reputed founder of Rosicrucianism who learned his art in the East; and to the nineteenth and twentieth century occult movements lead by such luminaries as P.B. Randolph, Theodore Reuss, Helena Blavatsky, and Aleister Crowley who also sought (and discovered) this technology in the religions and cultures of Asia.

The Tantric Alchemist is a work on Alchemy as decoded by Tantra … and a work on Tantra as understood by Alchemists. It uncovers works by Thomas Vaughan and suggests how he and his wife — a couple unique in the history of western Alchemy — met their fate when dealing with forces they knew only too well, but which were stronger than their ability to control them.

This book is an exposé of Church and State involvement in the escape of Nazi war criminals around the world. It is also a step-by-step refutation of the evidence that Hitler died in the bunker in April of 1945.

How did the Soviet KGB, the Catholic Church, and government agencies around the world collaborate in the disappearance of Adolph Hitler—the world’s most mysterious, monstrous, and wanted fugitive?

Ratline is the documented history of the Nazi escape routes, the mechanisms by which thousands of war criminals fled to the remotest parts of the globe. It is the story of how the Soviets lied about Hitler’s death and continued to lie and change their story for decades to come. It is the story of a man who died quietly in Indonesia in January of 1970 … and of how a body was dug up from a German military base four months later and cremated.

Ratline raises questions … but more than anything else—in a time of citizen distrust of institutions in Europe, America and Asia— it is a book that demands answers.

Peter Levenda is the author of many works on esoteric and political subjects. His most recent work is Tantric Temples: Eros and Magic in Java, also published by Ibis Press. Unholy Alliance: A History of Nazi Involvement with the Occult bears a foreword by Norman Mailer and has been translated into six languages. Stairway to Heaven: Chinese Alchemists, Jewish Kabbalists, and the Art of Spiritual Transformation is a classic study of Merkavah or Chariot mysticism. The Secret Temple: Masons, Mysteries and the Founding of America is an excellent introduction to the Masonic Brotherhood. He is also the author of the three-volume study of the influence of esoterica on American politics, Sinister Forces: A Grimoire of American Political Witchcraft. He is a member of the American Academy of Religion (AAR) and a charter member of the Norman Mailer Society.

H.P. Lovecraft, Kenneth Grant, and the Typhonian Tradition in Magic

CLICK HERE TO ORDER from Red Wheel/Weiser. $35.00

One of the most famous—yet least understood—manifestations of Thelemic thought has been the works of Kenneth Grant, the British occultist and one-time intimate of Aleister Crowley, who discovered a hidden world within the primary source materials of Crowley’s Aeon of Horus. Using complementary texts from such disparate authors as H.P. Lovecraft, Jack Parsons, Austin Osman Spare, and Charles Stansfeld Jones (“Frater Achad”), Grant formulated a system of magic that expanded upon that delineated in the rituals of the OTO: a system that included elements of Tantra, of Voudon, and in particular that of the Schlangekraft recension of the Necronomicon, all woven together in a dark tapestry of power and illumination.

The Dark Lord follows the themes in the writings of Kenneth Grant, H.P. Lovecraft, and the Necronomicon, uncovering further meanings of the concepts of the famous writers of the Left Hand Path. It is for Thelemites, as well as lovers of the Lovecraft Mythos in all its forms, and for those who find the rituals of classical ceremonial magic inadequate for the New Aeon. Traveling through the worlds of religion, literature, and the occult, Peter Levenda takes his readers on a deeply fascinating exploration on magic, evil, and The Dark Lord as he investigates one of the most neglected theses in the history of modern occultism: the nature of the Typhonian Current and its relationship to Aleister Crowley’s Thelema and H.P. Lovecraft’s Necronomicon.

The Remarkable Story of the Occult Origins of Mormonism and the Rise of Mormons in American Politics
Peter Levenda

CLICK HERE TO ORDER from Red Wheel/Weiser. $18.95

Based on Levenda's research into Mormonism, Freemasonry and esoteric societies over the past thirty years, this book is intended for an audience that is curious about Mormonism in light of the fact that at the beginning of 2012 there were two Mormons running for the GOP presidential nomination against two Roman Catholics. There has been much confusion in the media over various Mormon phenomena. This book examines Mormon beliefs and reveals the facts of Mormon ideas and practice, starting with its founder Joseph Smith Jr., who began his religious career with rituals of ceremonial magic and divination, and ended it with Freemasonry, the largest militia in the state of Illinois, a candidacy for US president, and assassination. This is the story of an American religion, and its origins are as strange as its beliefs and practices. What will it mean for America to have elected a Mormon as president? What can America expect?

Peter Levenda is a well-known author of many published works on esoteric subjects. His Unholy Alliance: A History of Nazi Involvement with the Occult bears a foreword by Norman Mailer and has been translated into six foreign languages. Stairway to Heaven: Chinese Alchemists, Jewish Kabbalists and the Art of Spiritual Transformation was published by Continuum in 2008 and spent three months at the top of amazon.com’s Kabbalah list. This was followed by The Secret Temple: Masons, Mysteries and the Founding of America (Continuum 2009). In addition, he is the author of the three volume study of the influence of esoterica on American politics, Sinister Forces: A Grimoire of American Political Witchcraft, which bears forewords by Jim Hougan, Dick Russell, and Paul Krassner. His latest books are Tantric Temples: Eros and Magic in Java in 2011 and Ratline: Soviet Spies,Nazi Priests and the Disappearance of Adolf Hitler coming in March 2012. He has appeared numerous times in documentaries for The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, the National Geographic Channel, and in TNT’s documentary “The Faces of Evil.” He has also appeared many times on podcasts and on Coast-to-Coast AM radio with George Noory and Ian Punett.

The Nazi Cult in Diaspora: How it was Organized, How it was Funded, and Why it Remains a Threat to Global Security in the Age of Terrorism
Peter Levenda

• Meticulously documents the survival of the Nazi ideology in the realm of contemporary politics and modern global terrorism.
• Utilizes newly-declassified CIA and FBI documents, State Department records, and National Archives materials in additional to the author’s extensive investigations, and personal interviews in Europe and Asia
• This is the third volume of the author’s extensive investigative work—begun in 1979 and published as Unholy Alliance, continuing through his recent ground-breaking revelations in Ratline of an Indonesian route in the Nazi escape network.

More than thirty years after his first investigation of the Nazi underground—which saw him detained at Chile's notorious Colonia Dignidad—Peter Levenda has returned again and again to his quest for the truth about the genuine character of the Nazi cult and the people and political movements it has influenced in the decades since the end of World War Two.

The wide sweep of this investigations moves from a Ku Klux Klan headquarters in Reading, Pennsylvania, to the New York City office of the Palestine Liberation Organization; from the apartment of a notorious neo-Nazi leader, to the Islamic boarding school—headquarters of the man who ordered the Bali Bombings. When Levenda uncovered the existence of a Nazi underworld in Asia, the nexus of religion, politics, terrorism and occult beliefs was revealed to be the real domain of the threat to global security. This book is a worthy sequel to Levenda’s acclaimed works, Unholy Alliance and Ratline.

This book will challenge all you are accustomed to believe about such subjects as the Muslim Brotherhood and Islamist terrorism; about Tibetan and Zen Buddhism; about such popular concepts as ODESSA and the underground Nazi network that has been financing global terror since the post-war period; and even about the alleged death of one of history's most infamous killers, Adolf Hitler.

Meticulously researched—from both archival material and declassified intelligence agency files, to personal interviews and investigations undertaken in Asia, Europe and Latin America—The Hitler Legacy is the story of how the mistakes of the twentieth century have come home to roost in the twenty-first. The failure of American, British and Soviet intelligence agencies to hunt down Nazi war criminals and disrupt their networks meant that we were unprepared when a similar enemy decided to use the same structures to prosecute their campaigns. Both the Nazi and jihadist networks are composed of non-state actors involved in asymmetrical warfare against identical enemies. Both are fueled by ideologies that combine apocalyptic fanaticism and anti-Semitism with a rabid hatred of Western “decadence.”

This book further documents how the cynical manipulation of religion (including Christianity, Islam and Buddhism) and the politics of the post-war period resulted in the devastating experience of the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York and the Pentagon. The failure of such policies continue to influence—and threaten us—today.

This is a book for those engaged in religious, esoteric or spiritual studies as well as those with an interest in world politics, history and terrorism.
